The fate of my world
Sometimes in life, I firmly believe things happen for a reason. I'm not talking like a plan or anything like that -- well, fate of sorts. Like things happen for a reason. I don't know if it's a higher being, luck or what -- but something leads things to a certain path in life.
Over the next week or so, I'll be posting 3-4 times about my recent trip to Montreal. Five seemingly perfect nights away from the wear and tear of the world. Away from all the flooding that came through this area. Away from work, life and the real world. It was like a perfect paradise that nobody could mess up.
Along the way, I met a lot of good and cool people. I made some friends I hope to keep in touch with and meet up with again down the line. I did things in the city I had never done before but always wanted to do.
It was my 10th trip to Montreal -- a city I say is as close to heaven as possible on Earth. This trip ranks up there as one of the best (2005 will be hard to ever match). Every year, it seems, for the past three trips or so has been "my last trip." Something keeps pulling me back. Something makes me keep planning this trip. It keeps me going back for more. Bringing more and newer people into the fold. And each year, it's exciting, I meet new people, see some old friends and have an absolute blast.
Members of the trip have come and gone. Some have been there more than others. Some only once or twice. But the constant has been three of us. One wasn't there this year and who knows if he'll ever go back with us. The other made the trip (for two nights) this year, but has some major things happening in his life soon and might, also, be having to call it quits.
Although, the one night, he said to me "Every year we say it's our last and we keep coming back."
Every year I get a little choked up when I leave Montreal -- probably because I know it could be the final time. Yet, I always find a way to go back. Maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to live up there for a year or three. Whether for work, studies or because I somehow strike it rich. The city may take a new meaning to me then, but I don't think so. The people I have met there who live there (for the most part) rave about it and how much they love it.
It's my hope that everyone out there has a "Montreal." The one spot you can travel to -- over and over -- and still find a great deal of fun and excitement each time you go. It makes life a lot better when you know you have a spot of Heaven that you can always get to.
